Abstract. The appearance of the radar contrast between clean and oily areas is analyzed in the framework of the model of resonant scattering of radio waves by sea surface. It is shown that the presence of long (compared to bragg components) waves leads to an reduction of the radar contrast.

Key words: sea surface, oil pollution, radar contrast.
