Abstract. In this paper, the optical method of instantaneous microwave frequency measurement based on fiber Bragg gratings with high chromatic dispersion is proposed. The mathematical model of the microwave photonic device realizing this method is developed. The possibility of measuring the microwave signal frequency by this method in a wide range from 3 to 40 GHz with an uncertainty of less than 100 MHz is shown.
Key words: instantaneous microwave frequency measurement, fiber Bragg grating, chromatic dispersion, microwave photonics.
