Abstract. The problem of automatic identification of multipath components of the channel impulse response (CIR) from ray-tracing data of real urban environments is considered. The proposed method combines correlation processing of probing signals with Gold ranging codes, wavelet filtering, and classification of detected responses by the XGBoost gradient boosting algorithm. Simulation results show that the false detection probability has been reduced to 0.8-3.4 %. The main causes of missed detections are XGBoost classifier errors (42-45 %), masking of weak components by ACF sidelobes (26-28 %), and insufficient time resolution of closely spaced rays (22-23 %). For generating consistent random sequences in physical layer security applications, the use of 2-4 dominant rays is recommended: this choice provides 66-69 % of the channel power coverage with a false detection probability of 1.2-2.0 %, which meets the requirements of physical layer security tasks.
