Abstract. Ñentralized provision of technical interoperability in distributed geophysics information systems (GIS) is proposed. Several options for possible solutions to this problem are considered, the solution is chosen, called in the framework of the module “set of transformations”, the most optimal from the point of view of security and scalability of GIS with minimal software upgrade. Design solution is based on the software which realizes format conversion hidden from users. The authors developed and implemented software and algorithmic means for converting data formats. In the course of modernization of domestic stations of vertical ionospheric sounding the analysis and recovery of format description * .ion, required in connection with the partial loss of documentation, are fulfilled. The problems of implementation of the module of  transformation sets in the structure of geographic information systems, technical problems in the integration of domestic GIS structure of world data center (WDC) are considered. The model of building of unified information space of GIS is proposed.
