Geoelectric characteristics of the coastal area of the lake Baikal middle part according to VLF-LF radioimpedance  sounding

Abstract. The method of radio-impedance sounding is an important source of information about the structure and physical properties of the upper part of the earth's crust. The method of radio-impedance sounding for electrical mapping of the coastal area of the lake Baikal by electrical resistivity within of a multi-layer medium model is substantiated. The method is based on analysis of amplitude-phase structure of the electromagnetic field in the observation point from the radio-impedance sounding data on VLF-LF radio stations. The quantitative data of the electrical properties (modulus and phase of surface impedance) and the geoelectric structure (2-3 layeres geoelectric sections to a depth of 100 meters) of the coastal zone of the Chivyrkuy Bay of the lake Baikal and resort Goryachinsk, Svyatoy Nos Peninsula were obtained. On the Baklanyi island and Golyi island (Chivyrkuy Bay) high resistance crystalline basement, reaching 1000-1420 Om×m are established. Revealed a significant feature of the geoelectric section on the coastal zone profile of resort Goryachinsk on the depth of 6-8 meters manifested thin highly conductive layer with a resistivity of 11 to 22 Om×m, it maybe the zone of tectonic fault, which is confirmed by of georadar sounding data. The geoelectric model of the middle part of the coastal zone of the lake Baikal was created.
