Abstract.
Using the finite element method (FEM) and the finite-difference time-domain
method (FDTD), a numerical study of the matching and radiation characteristics
of E – plane TEM horn linear arrays of three types: classic (regular) TEM
horns, exponentially - expanding TEM horns and square - irregular TEM horns,
the angles in E and H plane of which are monotonically decreased towards the
aperture are conducted. The first goal of this work is to investigate the
possibility of using the horns mutual coupling effect to reduce the lower
matching frequency of small-number-element E –plane TEM horn linear array of
different types. The characteristics of these linear arrays are compared with
the ones of 90-degree biconical elements. For in-phase linear arrays the
realization possibility of over region band of frequencies (frequency band more
than 1:10) is shown. The second purpose of this work is to research the
radiation characteristics, including the front-to-back ratio of radiation of
small-number-element E-plane TEM horn linear arrays of different types.
