Abstract.
The  
results of calculations of dispersive characteristics 
of a planar
waveguide made of the metamaterial with loss are
presented in the work, classification of types of waves of such wave guide is 
given. It
is shown that both forward and backward waves can present in such structure, 
there is a possibility of distribution of waves without
attenuation, despite of the presence of losses in a metamaterial, and also there 
are modes extending with
constant phase velocity, which is independent
on frequency.
