The dispersion characteristics of slowing and attenuation of the
dominant and first higher mode of a single-strip line on a single dielectric
layer are investigated by the Finite Element Method. The numerical solution has
been obtained using a resonator model with the line inside it and direct finding
of the complex eigenvalues for the cross section. It’s shown that the results of
both techniques for the slowing coefficient of the dominant and first higher
modes are practically identical, and there is a good conjugation for the
attenuation. Cross and longitude components of the electric field of the
dominant and first higher modes are presented. The calculated attenuation
dependences from the frequencies of dominant modes of a single-strip and a
microstrip line are compared.
