Abstract. Basic
physics and features of radiometric contrasts of targets in the millimeter
wavelength region are considered. Correlation between the target contrast and
difference of air surface temperature and radiation temperature of the sky
averaged over upper hemisphere is established. It is shown that atmospheric
brightness temperature at zenith angle of 60º in the millimeter wave windows can
be used approximately as the averaged sky radiation temperature. This
correlation established theoretically and confirmed by experiment may be used
for contrasts prediction and systematization on the bases of statistical data of
the aforementioned difference.
