We consider the possibilities to apply the methods of matched optical filtering to the problems of automatic control of geometrical parameters in accurate instrument design. We present the results of theoretical and experimental research of the precision capabilities of holographic correlator. The requirements to the positioning of the detail in the input plane are established. We demonstrate the possibility to inspect the details for tolerance matching using the holographic filter synthesized by using the method of double exposure with phase anti-compensation.
Analytical formulas for the behaviour of the correlator response versus the variation of the size, translation and the angular orientation have been obtained. We found that the relative accuracy of the control is about 0.5%. We propose to use the transformation of the wave fields both in the input plane and in the spatial frequency plane of the correlator for the improvement of the absolute accuracy. This leads to the increase of the absolute accuracy by factor 10. The results of experimental investigations are in good agreement with the results of theoretical analysis.
