Abstract. The version of modified
wavelet transform was developed for the time-frequency analysis of epileptic
brain discharges. The analysis of different types of discharges in patients and
animal models of genetic and experimental epilepsy was performed. Not less than
three types of absence status different in time-frequency dynamics of seizure
activity were revealed. The assumption about the existence of a few mechanisms
supported longer paroxysmal rhythmical activity for these epilepsy types was
made. In rats some types of nonconvulsive epilepsy similar to different types
of human epilepsy (typical spike-wave discharges of absence epilepsy, occipital
nonconvulsive discharges and nonconvulsive de novo discharges for elderly
people). The results of time-frequency discharges structure analysis by
modified wavelet transform can be useful for the differential diagnostics of
different types of epilepsy.
Key words: Wavelet transform,
