Abstract: The paper presents the main aspects of the hot-electron effect in
superconducting films, focusing on the applications of this effect in detectors
of electromagnetic radiation. Within the framework of linearised heat balance
equations analytic expressions have been obtained for the voltage responsivity
and noise temperature of such hot-electron detectors.
