Abstract. A study has been carried out on the cyclic autocorrelation and cross-correlation properties of ensembles of Zadoff-Chu, Gold, Kasami, and Gordon-Mills-Welch sequences truncated to a power-of-two length for use in cyclic shift-based modulation. It is shown that the lowest sidelobe level of the cyclic autocorrelation function is provided by truncated Zadoff-Chu sequences (–60.21 dB for a length of 1024), while among binary sequences the best result is demonstrated by Gordon-Mills-Welch sequences (–54.19 dB for a length of 1024). In terms of mutual interference level, Zadoff-Chu sequences also yield the best performance (–25.12 dB for a length of 1024), and among binary sequences the small set of Kasami sequences gives the best result (–21.72 dB for a length of 1024). Recommendations are given on the potential feasibility of using the considered classes of sequences in cyclic shift-based modulations.
Key words: Zadoff-Chu sequences, Gold sequences, small set of Kasami sequences, Gordon-Mills-Welch sequences, autocorrelation function, cross-correlation function, sidelobe level, cyclic shift.
