Abstract

A technique for time-resolution energy-mass analysis of the plasma flow of pulsed vacuum discharges has been developed. This technique uses the Thomson parabola method in combination with plasma rupture and additional acceleration. Temporary resolution is achieved by applying an opening voltage pulse applied with a delay relative to the start of the discharge. The advantage of this method is the ability to obtain complete information about the energy and mass charge composition of the plasma stream at any given time. The results of the technique demonstrate that the plasma flow of a vacuum arc discharge can be studied in much more detail than was previously possible.
