Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical investigation of an antenna array employing sequential rotation of elements to generate four switchable beams. Cavity-backed antenna elements are investigated to address applications requiring high-quality polarization characteristics over a wide solid angle. Simulations of the individual components of the proposed design, specifically the slot radiator and the beamforming network, as well as the complete antenna array incorporating phase compensation, have been performed. The amplitude-phase characteristics of the beamforming network, along with the radiation pattern, polarization, and impedance matching characteristics of the slot radiator across the operating band, are analyzed. Furthermore, the RF performance characteristics of the antenna array are calculated, and the generated beams are evaluated. The advantages of the proposed antenna, namely its compactness and ease of manufacturing, are highlighted. The proposed antenna array achieves high axial ratio values for each of the four generated beams within the specified coverage area, making it highly suitable for communication and radionavigation systems.
