Abstract

A study of the robustness of the cluster-variation method for identifying radio emission sources intended for use in multi-position triangulation systems under conditions of significant a priori uncertainty is carried out. The influence of anomalous measurements, data omissions, asynchrony of observations and unfavorable geometry of direction finders on the accuracy and reliability of coordinate measurement is considered. Quantitative indicators of robustness are introduced that characterize the probability of correct identification of a source, the root-mean-square estimation error and the maximum permissible levels of degradation of measurement information. Based on the results of numerical simulation, the dependences of accuracy on the proportion of gross errors and the number of available channels are obtained. It is shown that the cluster-variation approach ensures operability under conditions in which classical statistical methods become unstable.
